LAS VEGAS (AP) - A 19-year-old Las Vegas gang leader has been
sentenced to life in federal prison after he was convicted of racketeering murder, attempted murder, conspiracy, assault and
firearms charges.
U.S. Attorney for Nevada Gregory Brower says Monday's sentencing
for Donnie "Little Donnie" Bryant came after he was prosecuted as an adult because of the seriousness of his crimes.
A U.S. District Court jury found Bryant guilty in February of murder in the aid of a racketeering enterprise and other charges after he was accused of helping found a hybrid gang called "Squad Up" in 2003.
Prosecutors say the gang represented a coalition of traditional street gangs that recruited heavily at Cheyenne High School in North Las Vegas and that trafficked in marijuana and crack cocaine in North Las Vegas and the West Las Vegas neighborhood.
Bryant was accused of firing first into a group of people in September 2004 at an apartment complex in North Las Vegas in a shooting that killed Gilbert Henry and wounded others including a woman who shielded three children she was baby-sitting in a nearby apartment.
In June, 23-year-old Jonathon "K-Boose" Toliver was also sentenced to life in federal prison following his conviction by a separate jury in March of similar charges including racketeering murder.
