LAS VEGAS (AP) - The leader of a House panel says it plans to review a federal agency in charge of ensuring workplace safety this summer after recent construction deaths in Las Vegas and other major cities.
Democratic Rep. Lynn Woolsey of California says a workforce
protection subcommittee will review whether the safety standards of
the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration are
adequate and being followed.
Woolsey says the need to build quickly to meet construction deadlines is taking a toll and killing workers.
A spokesman for the House Education and Labor Committee says it
has been monitoring the situation in Las Vegas, where 10 construction workers have died in Las Vegas Strip projects the past 17 months.
