CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Supreme Court has scheduled
oral arguments July 1 on Clark County District Judge Elizabeth Halverson's claim that she doesn't need to run for re-election in November.

Halverson claims she and three other new judges elected in 2006 in the Eighth Judicial District are entitled to six-year terms.

Halverson, who was suspended from the courthouse last summer, is
seeking re-election.

She filed a complaint last week with the state high court arguing that a June 2005 state law that expanded the court unconstitutionally limited the four new judges' initial terms to two years.

The court wants Secretary of State Ross Miller to respond to Halverson's demand to nullify the scheduled election.
