RENO, NEV.; June 19, 2011 --- Reno Rodeo producer Cotton Rosser watched, horseback, as the rankest group of broncs out thus far at the Reno Rodeo – his own Flying U bucking horses – dislodged half the saddle bronc riders on Sunday night.

Bucked off were the likes of Rusty Allen and the Elshere brothers. And one Flying U bronc called Rude Awakening sent Steve Woolsey into the highlight films.

Rosser, 83 this year, bought the Flying U company in 1956, but it had been founded by Doc Sorenson in 1928, making it the oldest rodeo company in the PRCA. A ProRodeo Hall of Famer, Rosser produces the Reno Rodeo with his son and co-owner Reno Rosser, who was born during the rodeo 36 years ago.

The fastest time in team roping was turned in by defending world champs Trevor Brazile and Patrick Smith, with a 5.6-second run to put them third in the second round and third in the average thus far.
Brazile, the eight-time world all-around champ, was one of four cowboys out on Sunday night who were competing in two events. He took a no-time on both his calves, however, and Josh Peek, Ryan Jarrett, Clint Robinson and Steve Woolsey have all suffered no-times in at least one event, so the coveted Reno Rodeo all-around championship is wide open this year.

Flying U’s great mare Bartown out-bucked everything in the bareback riding field to carry Ryan Gray – the last man out – to an 82-point score that put him into third place in the first round.

After Gray dismounted with the help of the pickup men, Bartown’s foal was turned out into the arena with her. Mama and baby had a chance to show off for fans for a few moving minutes.

Finally, Kade Lingemann of Parkston, S.D., moved to the lead of the first round of steer wrestling with a 4.7-second run.
Reno Rodeo contestants compete in two long rounds with the top 12 coming back for the June 25 short round. The $2.1 million, 10-day rodeo boasts 700 contestants and roughly 135,000 fans, and is a Gold stop on the Wrangler Million Dollar Tour.

The fourth performance begins at 7 p.m. Monday. Tickets range from $12 to $25 and are available at www.renorodeo.com or by calling 800-225-2277. For more information, please call 775-329-3877.
