Reno, Nev. - Saddle bronc rider Bradley Harter moved into first place in the average at the Reno (Nev.) Rodeo on June 25 at the Reno Livestock Events Center.

The Weatherford, Texas, cowboy was elated and genuinely surprised because didn't know that previous leader Rusty Allen, from Eagle Mountain, Utah, had a score of 167 points on two head.

"I had absolutely no idea," Harter said. "I didn't add it up in my head."

Well, luckily the rodeo secretary does. Harter is the new leader heading
into tonight's finals of the Gold stop of the Wrangler Million Dollar Tour
presented by Justin Boots. The Reno Rodeo spurs for the overall winner goes to the cowboy with the highest score on three rides. Harter had 83 points on his first ride and scored 87 points on Friday night to jump into the lead with 170 points on two head.

"The past three years I've had great winters and slow summers," Harter said. "This year, I had an average winter, so I said I was going to have a great summer, so far it has have started out great."

Harter is 18th in the PRCA World Standings, so money won in Reno could help propel him into the Top 15, and he hopes a fifth Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualification.

The top 12 contestants in each event, and the top 12 teams in team roping, compete tonight for overall Reno titles. (See results below for a listing.)

Even those who didn't make the finals had a reason to smile on Friday
because of the money up for grabs.

Nebraska bareback rider Steven Dent had the high-marked ride in the bareback riding with an 83-point score on Big Bend Rodeo's Holly Time. Dent did not make Saturday's finals, but he is trying to keep his momentum going. Dent, who is in third place in world standings, trails leader Ryan Gray, followed by Kaycee Feild, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury. Gray rode Friday night, but his 74 points was not enough to advance him to the finals.

"I'm in the top five right now. If I can just stay there, I have a chance to
win a world title," said Dent, who finished second in the world in 2008 to then travel partner Justin McDaniel.

Dent is currently traveling with Gray, the three-time and reigning World
Champion Bobby Mote and Jason Havens. Being in the truck with the trio is helping motivate Dent.

"They show up and expect to win first," he said.

Another cowboy inspired is team roping header Joel Bach. The son of
four-time World Champion Team Roping Heeler Allen Bach has recently paired up with eight-time World Champion Rich Skelton. The duo finished with a time of 5.4 seconds on Friday. It was the fastest time of the night, but not quick enough to advance the new tandem to Saturday's finals. Reno was the first big rodeo the cowboys have roped together.

"He's always won and he's always made the (Wrangler National) Finals, so why can't I do that with him?" Bach said. "I just want to go everywhere with him because I know we can win."

The Reno Rodeo finals will air on In Country Television (broadcast on DISH Network 230 and DIRECTV 344) at 8 p.m. (ET) July 10. Check your local listings for re-air dates and time...The June 25 performance was Wrangler Patriot night featuring tributes to those who serve in the military... Eight cowboys, including Mote and Joel Bach, split the $16,000 cost of a chartered Lear Jet to travel from Sante Fe, N.M. to Reno when flights were cancelled on June 24...Bill Casner, co-owner of the Kentucky Derby winning horse Super Saver, attended the Reno Rodeo on June 24 and was interviewed by rodeo announcer Bob Tallman. Casner, of WinStar Farm, is an avid team roper.
