RENO, NEV.; June 20, 2010 ---Danger mixed with a previously unridden bronc on Sunday at the 91st Reno Rodeo, and the result was nothing short of spectacular.

Cajun bronc rider Heith DeMoss, a 25-year-old family man whom friends call Danger, drew Rosser Rodeos Flood Light and impressed the judges into awarding him 85 points and the lead in the first round of saddle bronc riding.

I've never had any kind of luck in Reno ever, DeMoss said. I've been knocked out and beat up and never won anything. But I came in this year saying it's all newa new attitude.

DeMoss, a former national high school champ currently ranked 15th in the world standings, looks to qualify for his third Wrangler National Finals Rodeo this December after a dismal performance there in 2009.

Earlier, two-time world champion steer wrestler Luke Branquinho wowed the Sunday evening crowd by making the exact same run he made in the 10th round of the 2009 NFR ? only this time, he kept his hands on the steer.

Riding his new horse Spiderman, Branquinho was nearly halfway down the arena when he got down on the hard runner and still posted a 3.9-second run to go to second in the second round and third in the average based on his 4.3 in slack.

During the ensuing victory lap, Branqhino drew a bucking horse and cut his circle a little short, but celebrated the chance to make his first Reno Rodeo short round. Like DeMoss, he?s never placed in the average.

?It?s one of the few short rounds I?ve never made,? said Branquinho, who won his world titles in 2004 and 2008. ?I?ve won go-round money, but never made it to the short round, so it will be great to come back.?

The Reno Rodeo is a Gold stop on the Wrangler Million Dollar Tour presented by Justin Boots, and will crown average champions on June 26.

Tie-down ropers Clint Robinson and Bradley Bynum posted blistering times of 7.5 and 7.6 seconds, respectively, to move into first and second in their event?s first round, with Hunter Herrin making the only move in the average Sunday night.

Two-time world champion barrel racer Sherry Cervi and California Circuit standings leader Nellie Williams each matched their first-round times, which were identical, with identical runs in the second round to move into a tie for second in the average behind leader and defending Reno Rodeo champ Lindsay Sears.

Lee Rosser?s athletic bronc with Peppy San Badger breeding carried bareback rider Bo Casper to the highest score in that event, an 81 that put him second in the first round. For the third straight performance, every bareback rider made the eight-second whistle.

And Pennsylvania header Justin Yost teamed with Texan Kyle Crick to stop the clock in 6.7 seconds in team roping, placing them in the second round and average just ahead of Arizona ropers Derrick Begay and Cesar de la Cruz, who also were successful on Sunday.
