RENO, NEV., June 22, 2011 --- The first round of saddle bronc and bareback riding was completed at the Reno Rodeo on Thursday night and two of the Wright brothers from Utah held on to the top spots.

Earlier in the week, Jesse Wright rode Big Bend Rodeo’s Kool Toddy for 89 points. That was good for a first place check in the first round of $3,374. Right behind Jesse is his older brother, the reigning world champion and Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association standings leader, Cody Wright. He is tied for second place with Tyler Corrington who rode on Thursday night. They each had 86 point rides and earned $2,249. Cody Wright’s success came aboard Big Bend Rodeo’s Faded Dice. Corrington, from Hastings, Minn., got on Flying Five Rodeo’s Blue Blazes. He is currently ninth in the world standings, so any money he won here will help him in his quest to qualify for his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR).

Corrington gets on his second horse here on Friday night. Jesse Wright is currently first over all while Cody Wright is second and Corrington is hoping to join them in the top of the standings and have a chance at a pair of championship spurs.

Tilden Hooper, from Carthage, Texas, held onto his first place position since the first performance. Hooper got on the horse named Distant Fire from the Big Bend Rodeo company and scored 87 points. That was good enough for $3,745. Justin McDaniel from Porum, Okla., had an 84 on Thursday to earn second. The 2008 world champion added $2,871 to his checking account. McDaniel is 43rd in the world standings so he really needs to pick up the pace to move into the top 15 and qualify for the NFR.

Robyn Herring, from Huntington, Texas, has the fastest time at the rodeo in the women’s barrel race. She is the only contestant in the field to have a time under 17 seconds. She did that in the first round with a blazing 16.98 then came back during the performance and ran a 17.02. She now leads the over-all standings with a total time of 34.0 seconds on two runs.

The eighth performance of the Reno Rodeo begins at 7 p.m. on Friday. At that time, second round winners and final round qualifiers will be announced. The rodeo is streaming live at loadedtv.com. Tickets range from $12 to $25 and are available at www.renorodeo.com or by calling 800-225-2277. For more information, please call 775-329-3877.
