RENO - Northern Nevada is cowboy country, but we do have city slickers out there who may not know what to wear to the ten day long event. If you're wondering if you can wear a black hat with a brown belt. Cowboy fashion experts say, as long as you feel good and carry your outfit off with confidence, you can pretty much get away with anything in the country western world.

Dawn Kearns creates custom clothes for rodeo queens, and she says the more bling and sparkle, the better. Nevada High School Rodeo Queen Karysa Perez says, she always looks for the brightest and boldest outfit. "We have dyed jeans to match and we paint the boots and belt with exterior paint for your house. We take the jeans into home depot and get them paint matched and paint the boots from there."

But not everyone may feel comfortable pulling off such a flashy look. Rogers Cowboy Supply has everything a rodeo fan could want. From belts and hats, to shirts and boots, Ty Rogers says, some western looks never change. But some styles do go in and out of fashion.

This year, Ty says, jeans and shirts don't have to be skin tight, and square toe boots are trendy. If you want to go bold, you can, you just have to own it. "If you're going to go to the show, you don't want to look like a city slicker. You don't want to wear khakis, you don't want to wear a polo shirt. What you want to do is look like you're having fun. If you're there and a cow gets out and you have to help get it back in the arena can can't do that in sandals."

Do we wear tutus to a dance recital? Do we wear a skating costume to watch the Ice Capades? Do we wear padding and a face mask to a hockey game? Do we wear golf shoes to watch a golf tournament? NO!!! Then why does everyone believe they need to dress like they just got off a horse to go to a Rodeo? Get out those Hawaiian shirts, capris and sandals, a visor or hat, any hat but a cowboy hat, real or fake and go have a good time. Everyone that TRIES to look like they just got off a horse really, really misses the boat and does provide a good laugh for those who spend their lives on the back of a horse. For those who don't, it's not necessary to even TRY. Unless you are competing or wranglers and boots are your everyday wear, just be comfortable. You're goint to WATCH the rodeo, not be in it.
