SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Police say at least 85 people were taken into custody as officers cleared San Francisco's Occupy encampment early this morning.
Police spokesman Albie Esparza says authorities have not compiled exact numbers late Wednesday afternoon, but most of the approximately 85 people were cited and released after the daybreak
raid.
Esparza says about 15 people arrested, on charges ranging from
resisting arrest to assault with a deadly weapon, are still in custody.
Esparza says most of the officers have left the encampment after more than 100 carried out the raid.
After the raid, officers blocked access to the former camp site as trash crews raked up paper and plastic bottles, removed chairs and other belongings that had accumulated there over the past two months, and pressure-washed the sidewalks.
