LAS VEGAS (AP) - Las Vegas police say several southern Nevada agencies will hold twin overnight exercises to train for responding to assaults by armed assailants at two area shopping centers.
The drills are slated to start about 11 p.m. Wednesday at the indoor Las Vegas Premium Outlet Mall south of the Las Vegas Strip.
Police Officer Bill Cassell says a second exercise will begin a short time later at the nearby Town Square outdoor shopping center.
The Nevada Highway Patrol and area fire departments are due to take part in the exercises, which are expected to end by about 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
Cassell says planning for the dual exercises began weeks before two bomb blasts on Monday killed three people and wounded more than 170 near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
