LAS VEGAS (AP) - Clark County officials are drafting regulations on reflexology businesses that aim to weed scammers and prostitution out of the foot massage industry.
The Las Vegas Sun reports the proposed changes set for a commission vote next month would add a new chapter in the county code to address reflexology. The practice involves putting pressure on the feet, hands or ears to achieve a variety of health benefits.
Reflexology clinic owners must have a basic business license from the county, but aren't required to have a background checks or education certifications as in the related massage therapy industry.
Critics say the lax rules allow some of the businesses to operate as fronts for prostitution.
Opponents of the rules say the regulations will burden businesses while doing little to curb prostitution.
