LAS VEGAS (AP) - Two southern Nevada cities will be studying how they can share more than just similar names.

The cities of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas approved a six-month agreement Wednesday to explore possible partnerships that could save both of them money.

North Las Vegas and Las Vegas have already combined their jail operations and say that's been working well.

They'll now take a look at partnerships in economic development, finance, business licensing, animal control and information technology, among other things. An 11-member Shared Services Committee will work on the project, along with officials from both cities.

Las Vegas was incorporated in 1911 and counts nearly 600,000 people, while its younger neighbor incorporated in 1946 and counts about 230,000 people.
