Trade Show Seminar Focuses on Gun "Straw Buyers"

LAS VEGAS (AP) - At the same time President Barack Obama was outlining plans to combat gun violence, some attendees at the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show in Las Vegas were attending a seminar about identifying people who shouldn't be buying weapons.

Ann Arbor., Mich., gun store worker Greg Rose was one of about 120 people to attend a Wednesday morning class about what a federal ATF supervisor calls "straw buyers." That's someone who illegally buys a firearm on behalf of another person.

Rose says he thinks most licensed gun retailers make sure their customers are legally qualified to buy guns.

The trade show organizer, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, is calling it critical to keep firearms out of the hands of people it calls irresponsible and not legally qualified to possess them.
