LAS VEGAS (AP) - A 52-year-old man from Thailand has been
sentenced to more than six years in prison after federal agents say
they found him with child pornography at a Las Vegas airport.
Manu Panatkul (pa-nat-KOOL') was sentenced Tuesday to 78 months
behind bars after pleading guilty to felony transporting child
Customs officials said 36 video discs of child pornography were
found in Panatkul's luggage when he arrived last July at McCarran
Panatkul faced up to 20 years in prison. The Las Vegas
Review-Journal reports he pleaded with the judge for more than 20 minutes Tuesday, saying through an interpreter that he would live the austere life of a Buddhist monk if he was freed.
U.S. District Judge James Mahan says Panatkul will likely be
deported after prison.
