MOAPA, Nev. (AP) - Survivors of a crash that killed five family members gave tearful testimony in a Nevada court, while a teen accused of driving drunk kept his head down.
Eighteen-year-old Jean Ervin Soriano appeared in a Moapa court Wednesday for a 2 ½ hour evidence hearing that's set to continue on July 10.
Soriano is a California juvenile detention escapee who was allegedly behind the wheel when an SUV hit a van outside Las Vegas on March 30.
Seven family members were in the van heading back to Southern California after visiting a sick relative in Denver. Five died, and the other two were injured.
Soriano is charged with seven felony driving under the influence charges and two misdemeanors. Prosecutors say Soriano had a blood-alcohol percentage of 0.12 after the crash.
