LAS VEGAS (AP) - City officials are renaming a street near the federal courthouse in Las Vegas to honor a security officer who was killed in a shooting there nearly three years ago.
The Las Vegas City Council and U.S. Marshals Service are holding ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday to rename Chef Andre Rochat Place to Stanley W. Cooper Place.
Cooper was serving as a security officer inside the Lloyd D. George Federal Courthouse on Jan. 4, 2010, when a man entered and opened fire. Cooper and gunman Johnny Lee Wicks died in the incident.
The street is currently named for a chef who owned a restaurant along the road. The restaurant has since moved into the Monte Carlo resort, and its chef has agreed to let the street be renamed.
