LAS VEGAS (AP) - Gov. Brian Sandoval has ordered flags at state buildings to fly at half-staff in honor of a Las Vegas rescuer who died earlier this week.
The tribute for 36-year-old officer David Vanbuskirk begins Friday and runs through Monday, the day of his funeral.
Vanbuskirk died Monday after falling from a helicopter hoist line while rescuing a hiker stranded at Mt. Charleston. The hiker made it safely into the helicopter.
Vanbuskirk joined the Las Vegas police force in 1999, and served on the search and rescue team since 2007.
