Scooter Rider Killed in Vegas Crash ID'd

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities have identified a 20-year-old scooter rider who died after hitting a pickup truck northwest of downtown Las Vegas.

Clark County coroner's officials say Justin Michael Vanderbeke died after the crash that happened about 9 a.m. Wednesday on West Lake Mead Boulevard and North D Street.

Authorities say the truck was turning left at the intersection when the motor scooter hit the truck's right front side and Vanderbeke was thrown off into the roadway.

He was taken to University Medical Center but died after he arrived.

The 68-year-old North Las Vegas man driving the truck was not injured.

The crash marks the 71st traffic-related death so far this year in Las Vegas police jurisdiction.
