LAS VEGAS (AP) - Administrators say the number of students in the sprawling Las Vegas-area school district has reached a new high.
Clark County School District officials reported a head count of 311,380 students on Friday in the district already ranked fifth in the nation in enrollment.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the headcount is more than 3,000 higher than last year and 140 more than the previous record number four years ago.
District officials say Hispanics continue to be the fastest-growing demographic, and now make up 44 percent of the students at the district's 357 schools.
The district is seeking a November ballot property tax increase to raise up to $120 million a year for six years for campus repairs, maintenance and construction.
