LAS VEGAS (AP) - U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio returned Saturday to his old grade school in Las Vegas, where he rallied hundreds of supporters of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and criticized President Barack Obama.

In a 20-minute speech at Ronnow Elementary School, the Florida senator said voters face a clear choice in November with Romney supporting free enterprise and Obama imposing too many government rules.

The Miami native, who's among Romney's potential running mates, moved with his family as a child to Las Vegas in 1979 before returning to Miami in 1985.

After the event, Rubio and his wife when they left for an event in Iowa, but the small plane they were in had to make an emergency landing in Albuquerque.

The Republican had tweeted that he was en route to a Mitt Romney rally in Iowa. He posted later that he gave a speech via cell phone.

Rubio told KOB-TV that the plane had a mechanical issue and joked that it was fine with him to land in a swing state
