Governor Brian Sandoval issued the following statement today regarding the shooting in Las Vegas: I am devastated by the news today of two officers and an innocent bystander who were murdered in an act of senseless violence. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. I am receiving regular updates with regard to this tragedy and local and state law enforcement are assisting at the scene.
LAS VEGAS, NV - Las Vegas police officers who normally patrol alone are being paired as a precaution following yesterday's deadly ambush that left claimed the lives of two veteran officers.
They were gunned down as they were having lunch at a pizzeria, in an older strip mall about five miles from the Las Vegas Strip.
They were shot at point-blank range by a man and a woman. One of them was heard to shout "This is a revolution."
Police say they don't have a motive for the rampage. One of the officers was able to fire back but it's unclear if he was able to hit them.
They fled across the street to a Wal-Mart, where a customer was gunned down just inside the floor. A gunbattle with officers followed and the woman fatally shot the other shooter and then herself.
Police say the case is complex because there are so many witnesses.
The officers were married and had children.
Wal-Mart expressed its condolences in a statement and said that the company is working with police on the investigation. Cici's Pizza said in a statement the company was deeply saddened by the shooting and would keep the location closed until further notice.
LAS VEGAS, NV - Two suspects reportedly shot themselves after killing two Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officers and another person at a Las Vegas pizza restaurant Sunday.
The spree began around 11:30 a.m. Sunday when a man and woman walked into CiCi's Pizza and shot two officers who were eating lunch, Las Vegas police spokesman Larry Hadfield said.
One of the suspects yelled, "This is a revolution," but the motive for the shooting remains under investigation, Hadfield said.
The two suspects then fled to the Walmart across the street, where they shot a person inside and then killed themselves in an apparent suicide pact, Hadfield said.
"I think in any case where people are ambushed and shot it's upsetting to the public," Hadfield told The Associated Press. "We don't know anything about the suspects yet and are trying to learn more."
The identities of the officers have been released. They are 42-year-old Alyn Beck and 32-year-old Igor Soldo.
The restaurant and Walmart remained closed as detectives processed evidence.
There have been 123 officers prior to Sunday killed in the line of duty. Here is a list of the names.
