Replacement Chosen for Resigning Assemblywoman

LAS VEGAS (AP) - The Clark County Commission has appointed a replacement for Assemblywoman April Mastroluca after her abrupt resignation last month.

Commissioners on Tuesday chose attorney Lesley Cohen, who was recommended by the Nevada Assembly Democratic Caucus.

Assembly Speaker-elect Marilyn Kirkpatrick says Cohen will serve on the education, judiciary, and natural resources committees once the legislative session convenes Feb. 4.

Mastroluca is a Henderson Democrat who was recently elected to her third term when she announced that she was stepping down. She cited personal family reasons.

Cohen moved to Nevada with her family in 1972 and graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a bachelor's degree in political science in 1993. She also has a law degree from DePaul University in Chicago.
