LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Las Vegas police officer is suspended without pay pending dismissal after being accused of unlawfully obtaining prescription painkillers.
An aide to Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson says Officer Ramin Allen Amely is expected to take a plea deal July 1 on a felony possession of a controlled substance charge.
The department says Amely was suspended without pay following a June 14 summons.
He's been a police officer since 2007, and was last assigned to the traffic bureau.
Las Vegas Police Protective Association attorney David Roger tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Amely's sentence will be deferred and might be dismissed if he successfully completes a drug rehabilitation program.
Amely was accused of obtaining Percocet, hydromorphone and hydrocodone from several doctors between May 2011 and last February.
