LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities say a veteran Las Vegas traffic officer has been suspended without pay following his arrest on felony fraud charges in a workers' compensation case.

Police said in a statement Friday that 46-year-old John Allen Wilson was relieved of duty Monday after he was arrested by Las Vegas detectives and charged with insurance benefits fraud, theft and attempted theft.

Police say Wilson was freed on unspecified on bail following booking at Clark County jail.

A court date wasn't immediately made public.

Police say the Nevada attorney general's office will handle the rest of the investigation and prosecution.

AG spokeswoman Edie Cartwright said Friday the state prosecutor's office hasn't received paperwork yet.

Wilson has been a Las Vegas police officer since August 1996.
