LAS VEGAS (AP) - A woman is dead in a freak accident after a van knocked down a light pole that then fell on her.
Police say the 35-year-old pedestrian was walking on the sidewalk a little after 1 p.m. Monday when the crash happened on Bonanza Road west of Pecos Road.
Officials say a Chevy Astro veered of the road, drove up onto the sidewalk and hit a street light pole, which fell onto the woman.
The van then drove back across the road and jumped the opposite curb before crashing into two parked cars.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was identified as a 69-year-old Las Vegas man.
Police are investigating the crash, which marks the 107th traffic-related fatality so far this year in Las Vegas police jurisdiction.
