NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - Police say a 23-year-old passenger is dead and a 22-year-old driver is critically hurt after a high-speed crash that split a vehicle into two pieces on a residential parkway in North Las Vegas.
North Las Vegas police Officer Chrissie Coon says speed is clearly a factor in the crash just before 4:30 a.m. Thursday.
Coon says alcohol may also be a factor.
The roadway is closed while police investigate.
Coon says the 2002 Honda Civic was demolished when it went off Camino Eldorado just north of Tropical Parkway and slammed into a tree.
The female driver and male passenger were both thrown from the demolished vehicle by the force of the crash.
Their names weren't immediately made public.
Coon says the woman's home isn't far from the crash scene.
