CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - State officials are marking the handover to Nye County of the Belmont Courthouse State Historical Site.

Gov. Brian Sandoval signed a measure last week making the move official, and he's due to hold a ceremony Monday in Carson City with officials including Supreme Court Chief Justice Kristina Pickering.

Pickering has a ranch near Belmont, about 255 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

The two-story brick courthouse dates to 1876, when Belmont was a booming silver mining town.

As silver mining dwindled, Belmont's fortune's faded and Tonopah became the Nye County seat in 1905.

In 1972, the town of Belmont made the National Register of Historical Places.

Amid state funding cuts in recent years, the nonprofit Friends of the Belmont Courthouse backed having Nye County take over building maintenance and restoration.
