Officers Honored for Role in Bellagio Bandit Case

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Two Las Vegas police officers have been honored for their part in catching a man who held up a craps table at the Bellagio casino on the Las Vegas Strip for $1.5 million in chips.

Crime Stoppers of Nevada recognized Metro detectives Jason Nelson and Sam Smith Monday afternoon with the "Exceptional Service Award."

Nelson and Smith's efforts on the case led to the arrest of Anthony Carleo, who is serving 9 to 27 years for casino robberies including the December 2010 heist at the posh Bellagio resort.

KVVU-TV reports Metro Police credit the detectives with preventing a third robbery.
