CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A new report ranks Nevada 10th in the
nation in the per capita rate of black homicide victims.
The report released Wednesday by the Victims Policy Center says in 2009, there were 46 black murder victims in Nevada, resulting in a homicide rate of 21.06 per 100,000 in population. Victims included 35 men and 11 women.
The report also says most were killed by guns. In cases where the relationship between the victim and assailant could be determined, 62 percent were killed by someone they knew.
Missouri had the highest black homicide rate, at 34.72 per 100,000.
Nationally, the black homicide rate was 17.9 per 100,000. That compares with 4.76 for the population as a whole and 2.92 per 100,000 for whites.
