LAS VEGAS (AP) - The Nevada Republican Party has endorsed a platform supporting a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

State GOP Chairman Michael McDonald says the vote Wednesday night shows a commitment of the party to be more inclusive and reflects a desire to secure a better life for all Americans.

The board's action comes a day after President Barack Obama unveiled his own immigration platform in Las Vegas.

The Nevada GOP says the United States should secure its borders and enforce existing laws. It supports a pathway to citizenship that would require illegal immigrants registering with the government and having the ability to communicate in English. Military or community service would be other requirements, along with proof of financial responsibility.
