LAS VEGAS (AP) - A new report says Nevada's population should pass the 3 million mark by 2019.
Clark County alone should top 2 million people by the end of next year while Washoe County likely will get to one-half million by 2031.
State Demographer Jeff Hardcastle tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal he expects Nevada's population to continue growing the old-fashioned way, with more children being born rather than migration from other states and countries.
He says that over 10,000 people left Nevada the past two years, but that was offset by nearly 40,000 births.
Statewide, the state's population grew by about 1 percent in 2012 to a total of 2,750,285.
Hardcastle projects the population at slightly more than 3 million in 2020 and nearly 3.4 million in 2030.
