Motorcyclist Dead After Rear-Ending Van

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities have identified a 55-year-old motorcyclist who died after rear-ending a stopped van in an early-morning crash in Las Vegas.

Clark County coroner's officials say Las Vegas resident Samuel Franklin Carnie died in the accident a little before 3 a.m. Friday on Nellis Boulevard near Owens Avenue.

Police say Butler was riding a Harley Davidson on Nellis and didn't brake in time to avoid the van that was stopped at a red light.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. An official cause of death hasn't yet been released.

Police say the 46-year-old woman driving the van had minor injuries.

The crash marked the 19th traffic-related death in Las Vegas police jurisdiction this year.
