LAS VEGAS (AP) - A 27-year-old Las Vegas officer is recovering
after a truck pulled in front of his police motorcycle over the
weekend.
Authorities say the officer shattered his wrist and hurt his
head in the crash that happened about 8 p.m. Saturday on Lake Mead
Boulevard, west of Victor Way.
Officials say a 1991 Ford Ranger was traveling west when it made
a left turn in front of the officer traveling east.
The officer was taken to the hospital with critical injuries,
while the driver of the Ranger was arrested on suspicion of driving
under the influence.
Sgt. Richard Strader tells KLAS-TV three Las Vegas officers died
in traffic accidents in 2009, and says he's glad Saturday's crash
didn't turn deadly.
