LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Mexican citizen who's wanted for a murder in his home country has been deported after immigration authorities arrested him near his North Las Vegas home.

Officials with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement say 35-year-old Pedro Curiel-Herrera was turned over to Mexican authorities Thursday at a San Diego-area border crossing.

Mexican police say Curiel-Herrera fatally stabbed a man in 1998 while the victim was trying to intervene in a bar fight in El Grullo, a city in the central Mexico state of Jalisco.

U.S. immigration officials say Curiel-Herrera was arrested less than a week after the killing when he tried to cross into the California town of Calexico using a fake ID. He was quickly deported.

Investigators say they recently learned that Curiel-Herrera was living in the Las Vegas area.
