LAS VEGAS (AP) - Officials recommended prison, but a state court judge sentenced a former Las Vegas police officer to probation for his role in a failed suicide scheme involving his attorney girlfriend, who later killed herself.
Thursday's sentencing for 45-year-old William Ronald Web Jr. came after prosecutor Sandra DiGiacomo told Clark County District Court Judge Douglas Herndon that sending Webb to prison wouldn't serve the interest of justice.
Webb spent 10 months in jail, and the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that DiGiacomo told the judge that when construction defects attorney Nancy Quon committed suicide in March 2012, she left Webb entangled in criminal charges stemming from the botched 2010 suicide.
Quon also faced criminal charges in the suicide scheme and was a target of a federal Las Vegas homeowner association fraud investigation.
