LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities say a suicidal man is recovering after being shot by officers in Las Vegas.
The encounter happened a little before 10 p.m. Monday on University Avenue near Mojave Road. That's about two miles east of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus.
Police Capt. Csaba Maczala says a person called 911 reporting his roommate was suicidal. The man eventually came out and put down the shotgun he was carrying, but police say that as they tried to arrest him, he suddenly jumped up and reached for the gun.
Officers fired shots that hit the man in his lower body.
Police say he was taken to the hospital with injuries that don't appear to be life-threatening.
