LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities say a man is in critical condition after being shot by trooper gunfire following a car chase in Las Vegas.
Trooper Jeremie Elliott says the man was taken to University Medical Center after the incident that started about 4 a.m. Monday. Elliott says a female who was also in the car was taken into custody.
Elliott says a trooper tried to stop an Oldsmobile near Nellis Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue, but the vehicle fled onto U.S. 95.
Troopers say they put out spike strips to stop the car, but the chase continued until sparks from the flattened tires set the vehicle ablaze.
Elliott says the suspect got out and exchanged gunfire with officers near Jones Boulevard and U.S. 95.
The man was struck, but no troopers were hurt.
