LAS VEGAS (AP) - Police say a man who started shooting at Henderson officers blocking traffic on a busy boulevard was killed in a volley of return fire.
Henderson police spokesman Keith Paul says a motive for the 8 a.m. Tuesday gunbattle on Boulder Highway isn't immediately clear.
Paul says the gunman approached an officer in a parked patrol car near College Drive and started shooting.
It's not clear if the man was a motorist.
The patrol car was peppered with bullets, but the officer got away unhurt.
Paul says the gunman crossed Boulder Highway and kept shooting at other officers before he was fatally wounded.
Paul says the man was pronounced dead at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center. His name wasn't immediately made public.
No police officers or anyone else was wounded.
