LAS VEGAS (AP) - Police say a 61-year-old registered sex offender is jailed in Missouri pending extradition to Nevada on a warrant accusing him of murder in the long-unsolved rape and slaying of a 7-year-old girl.
North Las Vegas police Sgt. Tim Bedwell said Tuesday that police in Ozark, Mo., arrested Jasper Everett Goddard during a traffic stop last Thursday.
Goddard had been sought on a warrant after he was linked through DNA evidence collected last year to the November 1986 death of April Marie Rhodes in North Las Vegas.
A police report says Goddard lived in a Statz Street apartment near the girl's family and a storage room where the girl's bloody body was found.
Investigators believe she was abducted overnight from her apartment, raped and beaten to death with a cinder block.
