LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities say a man has died after being shot by Las Vegas police in a confrontation at a stranger's home.
Officer Lawrence Hadfield says the man died at a hospital after the Tuesday afternoon encounter with police. His name hasn't yet been released.
Authorities say the man had been reported missing and was seen wandering around the neighborhood. He was found sitting in his underwear and watching television in a home off Pebble Lane and Las Vegas Boulevard South.
Police say the man had a butcher knife and a hammer, and officers tried for more than 2½ hours to convince him surrender.
Neighbors were evacuated, and officials say SWAT officers tried methods including a Taser to apprehend the man before shooting him several times.
