LAS VEGAS (AP) - A man is dead after a fire Saturday afternoon at a Las Vegas apartment complex.
Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski says a woman was treated for smoke inhalation and a firefighter was taken to the hospital with a minor injury after the two-alarm blaze at the Alpine Village Apartments.
A witness told investigators that the victim was a middle-aged man, and he saw him sitting in a living room lounge chair in a unit that was on fire.
The witness says he and several others tried to put out the fire with extinguishers, but had to evacuate as flames and smoke quickly spread.
Syzmanski says the blaze caused an estimated $200,000 in damage as it gutted one unit and caused moderate damage to three others.
Its cause is under investigation.
