NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - Police have arrested a man in California on charges that he fatally beat his wife with a vacuum cleaner in North Las Vegas.

Authorities say Anthony Tyron Mayo was arrested without incident Tuesday in Mojave City, Calif., after a collaborative effort between Southern California and Nevada law enforcement agencies and the FBI.

He faces murder, coercion, and domestic battery charges in the death of 40-year-old Beverly McFarlane.

Police who responded to a North Las Vegas home Aug. 10 say McFarlane reported her husband had strangled her before hitting her on the head with a vacuum cleaner two days earlier.

McFarlane was taken to University Medical Center and treated for a brain injury, but died two weeks later.

Mayo is in Los Angeles awaiting extradition.
