LAS VEGAS (AP) - Investigators say they believe a man intentionally set fire to a Las Vegas apartment building over the weekend as part of continued harassment of his ex-girlfriend.
Jail records show 33-year-old Salvador Hernandez was booked on attempted murder and arson charges stemming from a Sunday morning fire that displaced 23 people at the Sonoma Shadows Apartments.
A police report says Hernandez was recently arrested for breaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment with an ax and threatening to kill her.
The woman said he has been calling her repeatedly since his release, and she said she heard his voice outside the apartment minutes before the blaze started.
One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Damage was estimated at $400,000.
Police say Hernandez was later found with matches and a lighter.
