CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - An interim legislative money committee will consider $3 million in emergency funds sought by state officials to add psychiatric hospital beds in Las Vegas.
The funding request backed by Gov. Brian Sandoval comes as Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital is under intense scrutiny by federal regulators following allegations that patients were bused out of state without adequate arrangements for their care and treatment.
Additional money from a contingency fund was approved earlier this month by the state Board of Examiners, which is chaired by the Republican governor.
Officials say it would allow expanded renovations at the adjacent Stein Hospital to add more psychiatric beds in southern Nevada.
The Legislature's Interim Finance Committee meets Thursday in Carson City.
