CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Two federal court lawsuits have been filed to try to block BLM's approval of a massive water pipeline project intended to bring billions of gallons of water from rural areas along the Nevada-Utah line to Las Vegas.

One suit was filed Wednesday by the Center for Biological Diversity, the other by a coalition of environmental groups, local governments and Indian tribes.

Both were filed in U.S. District Court in Nevada and challenge the right of way approved for the project that critics say would deplete rural groundwater resources and imperil delicate species, including sage grouse.

It's the latest round of lawsuits over the proposed 250-mile-long pipeline that's been pushed for decades by Southern Nevada Water Authority to bring water to the desert metropolis of Las Vegas.
