LAS VEGAS (AP) - Police say a knife-wielding man who was shot and killed by officers after he grabbed a woman on a Las Vegas sidewalk was upset about being evicted from a nearby apartment.
Police Officer Jose Hernandez said the man held two knives to the throat of the terrified woman before two officers fatally wounded him about 7:30 a.m. Friday on Cambridge Street near Twain Avenue.
The man was pronounced dead at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center. He wasn't immediately identified.
Hernandez says the woman wasn't injured, but was very shaken by the incident several blocks east of the Las Vegas Strip.
Hernandez says an apartment manager told police the man was being evicted from a complex on Swenson Street when he threatened to take someone hostage.
