LAS VEGAS (AP) - A defense lawyer running for judge in North Las Vegas says he was unjustly reprimanded by the Nevada State Bar based on what he calls a false accusation that he tried to bribe a witness in a criminal case.
Attorney Jonathan MacArthur released a statement after a Monday report outlined the sanction against him.
He says he told a prosecutor two days in advance that the defendant's parents were offering to pay restitution if the victim changed testimony in a 2010 kidnapping, robbery and battery case.
MacArthur later withdrew from the case after the Clark County district attorney's office sought to remove him.
MacArthur says he believes the bribery allegations were made against him to hurt his chances for election in November as North Las Vegas justice of the peace.
