CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - An inmate serving life with possible parole for sexual assault has died at a prison infirmary in Carson City.
The Nevada Department of Corrections reports 79-year-old Juan Mendoza died Saturday at the regional medical facility at Northern Nevada Correctional Center.
Officials say he had a long-term medical illness. An autopsy is planned.
Mendoza was convicted in Clark County and sentenced to life with the possibility of parole for multiple counts of sexual assault and sexual assault against a child under 16.
He had been incarcerated since September 2004.
