LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada's public hospital could have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal court sanctions and costs after a court official concluded that administrators failed to produce documents in an employee wage and hours lawsuit.

A report this week by a special master appointed by a U.S. District Court judge in Las Vegas concludes that University Medical Center administrators withheld key electronic records that should have been provided to plaintiffs' lawyers since 2012.

The official, Daniel Garrie, calls the evidence destruction shocking.

He's recommending the judge impose monetary sanctions and find in favor of more than 600 class-action plaintiffs seeking damages and back pay for allegedly having to work through lunch periods for three years.

Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak calls it extremely troubling to learn the county hospital may have to pay punishment money.
