Hoarder Ordered to Pay $95K Cleanup Fee
LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Las Vegas man at the center of what authorities called one of the worst cases of hoarding they've ever seen has been fined more than $95,000 to cover the cost of cleaning his home.
KTNV-TV reports Kenneth Epstein pleaded no contest Tuesday to violating city fire code, having an unregistered firearm, and two counts of public nuisance. One count of animal cruelty was dropped as part of a plea deal.
He's also being ordered to counseling.
Officials served an abatement warrant on 55-year-old Epstein in October. Crews removed more than 40 tons of stuff from his house, including 15 dead cats and 40 live ones.
Officials say materials had been packed so tightly that Epstein wouldn't have room to walk upright in his house.
